Reindeer tour in Salla Reindeer Park

We will start our trip from the main building, where we will first check that your shoes and clothes are suited for the wintry ride. In necessary, we will lend you a warm coat, shoes and gloves.

We will harness reindeer together with the guide. During the harnessing, you will have a chance to get to know your reindeer personally. The guide shows you how to steer the reindeer. Then – just sit down and make yourself comfortable in the sleigh – and off you go! You will follow the guide.

Our route of ca. 6 kilometres  passes through a snowy forest, around icy islets of marshland.

In Kota (lapp hut), we will gather in a Kota shelter to share our riding experiences. The Kota shelter is a traditional Lappish resting and dining place, made of wooden boards and decorated with reindeer hides. The red flames of the open fire in the midst of the shelter make you feel warm and create a cosy atmosphere. In the Kota, we will cook sausages and make coffee, tea and hot chocolate, which we will drink from traditional Kuksa mugs. At the end of the coffee break, everybody receives an amulet made of reindeer bone, and the guide tells you about the beliefs related to reindeer bone.

After ride - At the main building, you will be awarded a Reindeer Riding Licence.
